A little About Myself
My work has increasingly focused on the Teesside of my childhood and the contrasting Yorkshire uplands where I roamed as a child. I spent long summers on my mothers family farm watching the antics of the farm dogs. The family Border Collies Belle and Jess accompany me on my rambles nowadays and appear in my Yorkshire paintings.
The Teesside Gadgies are characters I saw around the Middlesbrough area and are portrayed against the backdrop of a disappearing industrial landscape.
The Ayresome Park paintings are my recollections of a great football ground that was the heart of Middlesbrough. If the Boro were doing well people seemed to walk taller. I loved a night match best, the dark streets and the brilliant lighting when you got inside. it was like black and white TV outside and colour when you got in. I loved the hum and crackle of the floodlights.
I studied at Cleveland Art College and Sunderland University. In my early career I focused on sculpture as well as painting. I completed many large commissions for both private and public organisations. My paintings have been shown in many group and solo exhibitions.
My work is very well represented in Middlesbrough by Art house Gallery close to the Dorman Museum. Prints and original work can be purchased here.
The Yorkshire Paintings are well represented in The Chapel Gallery, Hawes, North Yorkshire.
